Fever and leukemoid reaction: a rare paraneoplastic manifestation of bladder carcinoma.

چکیده
Sir, Paraneoplastic syndromes are defined as nonmetastatic systemic effects that accompany malignant disease. These syndromes may occur in up to 10-15% of malignancies. A few paraneoplastic syndromes have been reported in metastatic transitional cell carcinoma including hypercalcemia, thrombocytosis, eosinophilia, nephrotic syndrome, acanthosis nigricans, dermatomyositis, polymyositis, and leukemoid reaction.[1] Leukemoid reaction has rarely been reported in patients with primary bladder carcinomas. We report a rare case of leukemoid reaction and fever associated with transitional cell carcinoma of the urinary bladder.

Only in one of the previously reported cases were fever and leukemoid reaction the presenting features of bladder cancer without any obvious metastases.[2] Two patients had rapid local recurrence six weeks after surgery.[3] Distant liver metastases at ...
متن کاملA Case of Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma with Paraneoplastic Leukemoid Reaction: A Case Report.
We present a case of nasopharyngeal carcinoma complicated with hyperleucocytosis. After ruling our other causes we concluded that the hyperleucocytosis was due to paraneoplastic leukemoid reaction (PLR). The overall survival was 15 months which is rare among patients with PLR.
متن کاملLeukemoid reaction and autocrine growth of bladder cancer induced by paraneoplastic production of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor – a potential neoplastic marker: a case report and review of the literature
INTRODUCTION Granulocyte colony-stimulating factor produced by nonhematopoietic malignant cells is able to induce a leukemoid reaction by excessive stimulation of leukocyte production. Expression of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor and its functional receptors have been confirmed in bladder cancer cells. In vitro studies have demonstrated that granulocyte colony-stimulating factor/receptor...
متن کاملA case of leukemoid reaction in a patient with sarcomatous hepatocellular carcinoma
A leukemoid reaction is defined as reactive leukocytosis exceeding 50,000/mm(3), with a significant increase in early neutrophil precursors, and can be a paraneoplastic manifestation of various malignant tumors. A 71-year-old male patient complained of decreased appetite, fatigue, and abdominal fullness. He had a palpable, firm liver, and laboratory investigations suggested leukemoid reaction. ...
متن کاملParaneoplastic Leukemoid Reaction in a Patient with Urothelial Carcinoma: A Case Report
Introduction: Leukemoid reactions in cancer are rare and associated with a poor prognosis. The mechanism driving paraneoplastic leukemoid reactions appears to be gain-of-function granulocyte-colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) secretion by tumour cells. Case Presentation: A 57-year-old male smoker presented with a one-year history of painless frank hematuria and three kilograms weight loss. Cysto...
